GameGune 2008 preview

GameGune 2008 approaches and it once again promises to be another thrilling event, despite the missing top teams.

The 2008 GameGune event will be held, just like the last years, in the city of Bilbao. Bilbao is located in the North of Spain, the largest city in the Basque Country and the capital of the province of Biscay. The city of Bilbao will once again be host of the yearly Euskal Encounter, this year it is the sixteenth edition of the event. Organizer of the event is the Euskaltel foundation, Spanish ISP (Internet Service Provider). The surroundings will again this year be held in Bilbao Exhibition Centre. The Euskal Encounter 16th edition will this year have 4.096 seats to be filled up by the LAN-enthusiasts. Euskaltel will make sure the attendees will not get bored, as they provide 10 Gigabit internet access.

GameGune is a separate event inside Euskal Encounter 16. Gathering thirty-two international teams, for the invite tournament. During the three days, these teams will be battling it out for an impressive prize purse of 22.500€.

GameGune will as the previous years be the second major of the summer period. ESWC Masters saw most of the biggest international teams fighting for remaining qualification spots for the grand final. GameGune will be a showdown between a few top international teams and challenging second rank teams. Can the challenging teams upset the favorites and pocket the big check?

The tournament will begin with a group stage, consisting of eight groups. Top two in each group will advance to the playoffs, being played in a double elimination bracket playing best of one map. The overall winner can pocket a prize sum of 12.000€.
